Summer Trend Report 2012

As we start summer, we leave behind our spring threads and dive head first into the new trends! I bring to you today the Summer Trend Report 2012! No girl dares to be caught in last season threads and although a lot of spring trends stuck around, summer brings us some new and fun fashion styles!

Orange: Orange isn’t going anywhere this summer. We saw it all spring and we’re sure to see it all summer. From shirts to dresses to pants we’ve seen this color everywhere. It’s a perfect color to add to any outfit for a splash of color, but you be careful to not overdue it or you’ll look like you stole someone’s prison jumpsuit.

Neon: I am pleased to say the neon trend is also here to stay. This is one of my personal favorites. You can wear it on your nails, shoes, accessories or clothing! Neon is a fun way to show your personality. Neon bathing suits are a perfect idea for summer or get your hands and feet ready with a neon mani/pedi!

High Waisted Shorts: Vintage style shorts are super in for summer. From shorts with designs or just plain jean, you can wear them to the beach or out on the town with your favorite Jeffery Campbells. You can make your own pair too! Check out my tutorial on em'

Tiny Tops: Tiny tops are a go for this upcoming season. From neon crop tops to bustier style short tops, these are everywhere. You can pair them with a skirt, either long or short or with a pair of those high waisted shorts.

Florals: Also seen in spring, florals are sticking around. Large, loud flower patterns are all the rage.  Pair some floral shorts with a cute orange button down and your right on trend and super cute! I personally love the floral pants and blazers coming out. Floral pants with a plain crop top and some banging heels and you got yourself a perfect night out outfit.

Mixing Prints: Step outside your comfort zone with this summer trend. Grab those cheetah flats and pair em’ with your new floral shorts or blazer. Mixing prints is a bit risky, but such a fun way to play with your closet. How about some lace with tribal prints? Or galaxy patterns with animal print? Just make sure the colors all compliment each other and none of the patterns are too bold and all of you can pull this off without any extra effort.

Pastels: Soft, pastel colors are all over the stores this season! From gorgeous mint green maxis to soft pink skinnys, this is a must have for all the fashionistas. The pastel maxi skirts and skinnys are my personal fav! They are so cute and classy. A pastel bag is also a great way to incorporate the trend.

And there you have it! Your summer trend report for 2012! Get your shopping shoes ready and hit the stores to grab these items to keep your closet summer ready!

Which trend is your favorite?

The 2012 Met Ball

Last night, celebrities and fashion icons flocked to the NYC for the most prestigious event, The Met Ball. It was held this year to mark the opening on the Costume Institute exhibition on Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli. This ball is something everyone whose anyone wants to attend, and my invitation obviously got lost in the mail! This is the Oscars of Fashion! So who was there and what were they wearing? Let's take a look at the best and worst looks the gala had to offer.

Now, onto what in my opinion was some of the worst dressed attendees! I mean, what were they thinking?!

Love the dress, but the color washes her out and it's boring. Her hair is boring as well.

Too much going on over here. If it didn't have the top piece, I'd be all for it.

Love everything, except the lip color and color of the dress needs to go..like yesterday.

Now, the dress isn't too bad. I think it's made for a taller person, but she looks so depressed that this look s not working.

I'm all for fashion risks and thinking outside the box, but I just can't with her dress.

 Need I say anything?

Apparently Beyonce wanted her Cher moment. I know you look good girl after you had a baby, but this is a no.

The double belt doesn't do anything for me. It clashes with the print.

Okay Bruno, the fro. GET RID OF IT. You look like a chick. It's horrible.

Who was your favorite and least favorite of the night?

DIY Tutorial: American Flag Shorts!

Well hello dolls! As requested, I'll be doing another DIY Tutorial! This time I'll be showing you all how to make a pair of your very own high waisted American Flag shorts! Perfect for summer and Fourth of July!

These shorts do take some time and you'll need a few things : A pair of vintage highwaisted jeans from any thrift store, big scissors, small scissors, marker, ruler, fabric glue (can be found at Micheal's or any craft store), a razor and most importantly an American Flag bandana or fabric.

Don't use a real flag!

So let's begin, shall we?

1. Start off with measuring your jeans and seeing how short you want them to be. Mark where you want to cut them, take them off and with a ruler draw a line across where they will be cut.

2. Cut them and make sure they are even in the front and back.

3. Then once they are cut, take your razor and fray the bottom as much as you want. Stick them in the wash so they fray even more and look distressed on the bottom. NO FABRIC SOFTENER!

4. Be careful not to dry them too much or they can shrink! Also, at this time grab your flag fabric and wash it as well. AGAIN NO FABRIC SOFTENER!

5. Once both garments are washed and dried, lay your shorts out on the table. If you want to distress the bottom more, make sure to do so now.

6. Grab your flag fabric and measure the star side on the left side on your shorts. Make sure the fabric goes all the way into the inseam on the shorts!

7. Apply some fabric glue on the shorts, everywhere you want the stars to stick. Make sure not to glue the belt buckle part because you'll be cutting around this.

8. Stick the fabric to the shorts. Hold it down to make sure it adheres. Allow it to dry for one hour before touching it!

9. Once dry, begin to cut the excess fabric with your small scissors. BE CAREFUL! If you cut too much, your kinda screwed. Cut around the buckle, the zipper, the pocket, the sides and the bottom.

10. Once you cut it perfect, repeat steps 6-9 for the striped side. You can have the stripes facing vertically or horizontally. It's up to you. Make sure to not glue the zipper though, you leave that part of jean exposed.

11. Once you let your other side dry and cut it, stand back and marvel at your creation! It's simple, yet time consuming, but your results are totes worth it!

Make sure to show me your DIY shorts!
