Summer Trend Report 2012

As we start summer, we leave behind our spring threads and dive head first into the new trends! I bring to you today the Summer Trend Report 2012! No girl dares to be caught in last season threads and although a lot of spring trends stuck around, summer brings us some new and fun fashion styles!

Orange: Orange isn’t going anywhere this summer. We saw it all spring and we’re sure to see it all summer. From shirts to dresses to pants we’ve seen this color everywhere. It’s a perfect color to add to any outfit for a splash of color, but you be careful to not overdue it or you’ll look like you stole someone’s prison jumpsuit.

Neon: I am pleased to say the neon trend is also here to stay. This is one of my personal favorites. You can wear it on your nails, shoes, accessories or clothing! Neon is a fun way to show your personality. Neon bathing suits are a perfect idea for summer or get your hands and feet ready with a neon mani/pedi!

High Waisted Shorts: Vintage style shorts are super in for summer. From shorts with designs or just plain jean, you can wear them to the beach or out on the town with your favorite Jeffery Campbells. You can make your own pair too! Check out my tutorial on em'

Tiny Tops: Tiny tops are a go for this upcoming season. From neon crop tops to bustier style short tops, these are everywhere. You can pair them with a skirt, either long or short or with a pair of those high waisted shorts.

Florals: Also seen in spring, florals are sticking around. Large, loud flower patterns are all the rage.  Pair some floral shorts with a cute orange button down and your right on trend and super cute! I personally love the floral pants and blazers coming out. Floral pants with a plain crop top and some banging heels and you got yourself a perfect night out outfit.

Mixing Prints: Step outside your comfort zone with this summer trend. Grab those cheetah flats and pair em’ with your new floral shorts or blazer. Mixing prints is a bit risky, but such a fun way to play with your closet. How about some lace with tribal prints? Or galaxy patterns with animal print? Just make sure the colors all compliment each other and none of the patterns are too bold and all of you can pull this off without any extra effort.

Pastels: Soft, pastel colors are all over the stores this season! From gorgeous mint green maxis to soft pink skinnys, this is a must have for all the fashionistas. The pastel maxi skirts and skinnys are my personal fav! They are so cute and classy. A pastel bag is also a great way to incorporate the trend.

And there you have it! Your summer trend report for 2012! Get your shopping shoes ready and hit the stores to grab these items to keep your closet summer ready!

Which trend is your favorite?

This Season's : Nail Trends

As Spring surrounds us and Summer's touch is close by, we bask in the beauty of neons, florals and pastels. The trends don't stop there though! We have gorgeous trends for pretty little hands and feet as well. Below I've listed the top 4 and I personally believe each one is a must-try because they could not be more fun and fabulous!

C/O Birchbox

1. Ombre Nails: It's like the hair trend, but for your nails! You can achieve this look by painting each of your five nails a different shade of one color. Meaning if you picked blue, you would go from light to dark blue as you paint your nails. We saw the ombre look all over the runways this season and I think it's a fun, new look to try out especially with pastel and neon polish!

2.  Reverse French Manicure: I absolutely love this look! It is so fun and fierce. You start by picking any two colors you would like, one for the main part and one for the peek-a-boo reverse french. You begin by painting your nail the color you would like for the french part. Let it dry completely! Then you can make the french part two shapes, a half moon or a triangle like the picture. For the half moon, place the nail stickers close to the bed of your cuticles covering what you want to show, then paint the rest of your nails the other color, top coat it and there ya have it! For the triangle, you paint the rest of your nail diagonally to the right, then to the left leaving the bottom on your nail showing with the previous color.

3. Glitter Nails: Now this trend I LOVE! I'm convinced glitter runs through my veins. Add some glitter to your mani & it's an instant party! You can paint your nails entirely with glitter or use it as a top coat. Start with your favorite polish and add this on top for a pop of sass. You can also use the glitter to do a french mani. There's so many ways to wear it, how can one choose?!

4. Neon Polish: This is so perfect for summer. From bright oranges to shocking pinks, this trend is a must try for everyone. Keep it simple though, no crazy two toned manis. you can add a top coat of glitter is you like, but keep it subtle. Now all neon colors are a bit translucent, so make sure to paint your nails a light white first and then apply the neon color so it pops!

So my lovelies, what do you think of this season's nail trends? Will you try any out or play it safe with your usual color?

DIY Tutorial: Studded Highwaisted Shorts!

Have you ever seen those adorable high waisted studded shorts at Urban Outfitters, SaboSkirt or Etsy and been like, "AH, I WANT/NEED THOSE IN MY LIFE!," and then you see the $60-80 price tag and your all like "Maybe I don't need em that bad..." Well fashion lovers I HAVE YOUR SOLUTION!

DIY Studded Highwaisted Shorts! It's so easy a caveman (or woman) can do it!

All you need are a few things: a spoon, pyramid studs (8 or 10mm on Etsy or Ebay), scissors, marker, ruler,  highwaisted jeans, and something to fray & distress them with like a razor.

So here are the instructions.

1. Grab a pair of highwaisted jeans from your local thrift store. I got a pair of vintage Levi's for $4 at Goodwill. Try them on and mark with the marker how short you want them. After lay them out on a flat surface and with the ruler draw a line across the jeans where you want them cut.

2. Cut them and try them on. If you want them shorter repeat #1 or you can always cuff them. you can also cut the bottom in a diagonal, which is what I did.

3. Next decide the stud design you want. I chose to stud the entire front of one side of my shorts. After grab the pyramid stud and place it on the jeans and push the little spikes through the jean.

4. Grab the spoon and push down the spikes to secure the stud. Repeat until you get the desired pattern.

5. Then distress them and fray the bottoms on the shorts. Fray and distress using a razor or sharp object and run it along the shorts. Sandpaper works great for creating holes.

6.Try em' on & marvel at your creation!

How easy and adorable is this?! A few low cost items, some free time and your imagination will get you fabulous shorts for less then half the price of what they would cost you at any store!

I also studded a jean vest, a pair of black shorts & a jean button down. How cute are they?!

For this button down btw, you stud the front the same way you did your shorts & then for the spikes you mark with a marker where you would like them, then with a super thick needle you poke holes where you marked it. After, you push spike through to open the hole more and you get the back of the spike and put it in the hole you made. Screw the spike on top and your done!! Super easy ladies.

Spring Trends 2012

As spring rolls into town, fashion enthusiasts everywhere jump for joy with the chance to trade in the dark coats and heavy boots for bright neons and bold patterns. So what can we expect to see all over stores this spring? Fun color-blocking, bold patterns, neon everything, pastels and much more. Let's discuss shall we?

1. Color-Blocking : We saw this trend earlier in the year and it looks like it's not going anywhere. This color-blocking trend is so easy to put together, even a fashion rookie can do it. The runway was full of wrap dresses, colorful bathing suits and skirts. When color-clocking remember to stay to the max of 3 colors! You don't wanna end up looking like a crayola box threw up all over you.

2. Bold Patterns: Now this trend I love! It can be a risk for those who thought flower printed pants were the no no of the fashion world, but what better way to spice up an outfit then to throw on a flower blazer?! The patterns this spring are all over the place! From large floral prints to abstract geometric prints to the classic polka dots & stripes. The prints can be worn from head to toe or just as the one statement piece of your outfit. Abstarct printed pants pair with a simple top and a banging pair of heels make a great outfit for a night out or you can be daring and wear a full on jumpsuit of polka dots. The louder the bettter and mixing patterns together is a go as well. Floral and cheetah? Sure why not.

3. Tangerine & Orange : When asked what the "it" color for this season would be? People said Tangerine and boy were they ever right. Tangerine and Orange were all over the runway and I think it's the perfect color to add to any wardrobe. Now, you can wear it head to toe, but be warned because you don't wanna end up looking like you're wearing your prison jumpsuit. You can also try this trend out by adding a bag, shoes, or glasses in these colors.

4. Pastels : If bold color isn't your thing, then never fear because pastels are in style! You can rock your city with soft shades of pink, purple, yellow, etc; Pastel pants and blazers are big, pair it with a simple top and some wedges and BAM!, you're ready to go. You can also pair your pastel piece with a more daring piece as well. How about some cheetah and pastel? Or my favorite, a crazy floral with some pastel accents.

5. Futuristic Prints: Last but not least in style for spring 2012 are futuristic prints! Think Milky Way Galaxy designs mixed with some swirls and lines. This trend is a bold move for any fashionista. You have to be careful while rocking the designs and keep it to one key piece. Either a dress, shirt, jacket or pants. NOT all four at once, you don't wanna look like you traveled to Earth from a distant planet or something.

Now you're all caught up on trends and you won't be sporting last year's style. Go out and have fun with these trends and spice up your wardrobe! What trend are you most likely to sport?
